About Kim Pirilla-Scalise

“At Superior, our mission is to be way makers,” says Kim Pirilla-Scalise, executive director of Superior Home Care. “Our promise to every client is to understand the way they wish to live – and then help them to live that way through our care and support. That’s the reason why I started our home care business.” Since graduating from college, Ms. Scalise has been dedicated for over three decades to working with and supporting people in various human services roles. In each role she has held, Ms. Scalise has felt she was making a difference in people’s lives, but she is always pushing herself to do more. “In my time as a service coordinator, I recognized there was a real service gap that existed in our long-term care continuum, one that often left those in need of support to live at home at risk of not being able to do so. This was especially true for those with challenging or complex support needs. Often, people and families had few choices for quality in home care, some had no options at all. I felt these clients and their families deserved better, they deserved quality options from a committed provider. And that’s how Superior was borne.” Today, Superior Home Care includes Superior at Home (a company that offers non-medical services for clients who want to remain living at home) and Superior Home Health (a company that provides skilled services for patients who are rehabilitating/recuperating at home). Superior Home Care now serves more than 500 clients annually in five southwestern Pennsylvania counties and employs over 125 staff. In addition, Ms. Scalise is a highly respected advocate for the home care industry, especially for developing a ready and prepared workforce. “Home care expedites healing, saves money and improves the quality of life,” says Ms. Scalise, who regularly informs legislators and the media about trends in home care. “Most importantly, it enables people to continue living in their own homes for as long as possible, which, if given a choice – is what most people prefer.” Kim says each day is a life-affirming experience for her. “Clients view us as lifesavers. We are often the only thing they have left that gives them hope. It is an honor and a privilege to serve this vulnerable population.” Career Highlights Superior Home Care 2002 – Present Founder/Owner/Executive Director Family Links 1998 – 2002 SC Supervisor/Supports Coordinator ARC Allegheny 1995 – 1998 Program Manager Vanderbilt University 1990 – 1993 MH Research Site Coordinator https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-qs2imEJZoJ_Zdh9cOvg-g Education B.S., Psychology and Sociology, Methodist University, Fayetteville, NC 1991 Associations Pennsylvania Homecare Association Southwestern PA Partnership for Aging (SWPPA)
